Can’t believe the whole country has to suffer through the return of Dickensian childhood diseases because the worst, most ignorant attention-demanders decided other people’s expertise makes them feel bad

prior to COVID it was normal for the staff of infusion rooms to mask, since so many infusion patients are being treated for cancer or are post-transplant

and we’re all immunocompromised or we wouldn’t be there

now they never mask
Prior to Covid it was normal to mask in the NICU. People understood that premature babies are as vulnerable as they come and need to protected.

Now? Gowns & gloves but no masking.

The damage caused by anti mask rhetoric will be felt for years (possibly decades) to come.

“I don’t consider myself COVID cautious. I consider myself COVID competent,” Zebrowski said. “Cautious would imply that I have an unreasonable fear of something. I do not have an unreasonable fear of this disease.”

Nailed it 🔥
Meet the Americans who still take COVID-19 precautions seriously

As a NYC public school teacher, I enjoy the delicious irony of the head of education for our city having his phone(s) taken away.

I got back into building Lego for fun and relaxation as an adult. This was my first project, the Medieval Blacksmith, in May of 2022.

Mask bans are evil and dystopian and I am appalled that they’re even being proposed. Wearing masks to protect your health and the health of others needs to be recognized as a right for all and an absolutely essential protection for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in society

It appears that some universities are banning masks of any kind at sites where they are holding their graduation ceremony. This is ableist, exclusionary, and completely unacceptable.

4 years ago today, the WHO declared COVID a pandemic.

Today, we will rightfully remember the tens of millions of people who have died.

We must never forget.

But we must also remember COVID is still killing, disabling, and excluding too many.

We are still in a pandemic. We still need to act.

Four years ago, when WHO leader, Dr. Tedros, declared COVID-19 a public health emergency, he said:

"We cannot say this loudly enough, or clearly enough, or often enough: all countries can still change the course of this pandemic."

These words still apply today.

It's shameful that public health institutions are fixated on weakening guidelines for people who are ignoring the pandemic, while doing nothing to meaningfully address one of the most important public health problems today: Higher risk people being excluded from society.

Something notable from this chart comparing U.S. COVID wastewater levels by year, is that we've never seen levels this high at this time of the year! (indicated by the black line representing current levels, crossing the blue line representing Omicron levels in 2022)

Millions have died and developed chronic illness from COVID. Millions have died and developed chronic illness from air pollution. Making sure our buildings have clean air isn't only a COVID issue. It's a climate justice issue too.

During the past week, nearly 36,000 Americans were hospitalized with COVID, the highest since January 2023. Over the last two weeks, there were 4,262 COVID deaths. This is the 18th week in a row with more than 1,000 new deaths in the US. The pandemic is not over.

NYS DoH just sent a reminder that healthcare workers are required to wear a mask if they haven't gotten their flu shot.

It makes zero sense they are ignoring COVID and not requiring masks for everyone. COVID levels are high, and you can still spread it if you are vaccinated.

It's so illogical and dangerous that even after seeing a virus kill tens of millions and disable many more, a majority of people still haven't adapted by making the most simple adjustments to their lives like wearing a mask or staying home when they are sick.

Reminder: Encouraging people to get vaccinated does not mean discouraging people to wear a mask. And vice versa. As always with public health, the best way to protect our communities is with *layers* of protection.

our gatherings.

In year two
we were careful
so we tested before
our gatherings.

In year three
we were shocked

our gatherings.

Now in year four
we’re over it
so we invite the virus to
our gatherings.

Recognize that the reason we haven't made basic changes isn't because they're not necessary. It's because business and right-wing groups mobilized against public health early on, ginning up fear, anger, and confusion about government efforts to protect people from the virus.

Rather than getting frustrated at immunocompromised people for reminding you that COVID is still a thing and we're not doing enough, maybe recognize that even despite 1.2 million American COVID deaths, we haven't fundamentally changed anything or fixed the problems COVID exposed. We're vulnerable.

Every single leftist I know who decided to go back to normal has done it the exact same way. 1. Stop posting on social media somewhere in 2022 because you're taking a 'break' 2. Distance yourself from friends still masking 3. When you start posting, avoid posting your face to avoid being confronted.
