This really was just to start working out the kinks in Gabe’s design. Afro-Latino for sure. The face models were helpful but I think fan art ultimately helped me achieve the look I wanted. At the top we have him post-crisis. I had a friend suggest really long hair and I always intended to give him beautiful locks but I think their suggestion and story made me fully commit to it. I think designing him, all I was thinking is: oval face, high cheek bones, grumpy cat. For his wraith form, I was channeling La Lachuza because I believe he’s of Mexican descent from California, right? So, I was imagining since his wraith form is probably partly his subconscious fears and what he believes is creepy, then he ought to be channeling some childhood fears. Bottom has me wilding and I hope it does it for you all too. He is absolutely angelic in Jack’s eyes. He may not always say it but he expresses his love for Jack most by acts of service and food. A lot of food. He loves cooking for Jack and loves serving himself to him. Note that one of his military dog tag is deformed. I was thinking that his own dog tag got melted or hit by bullets at Zurich during the fall.
