Tomorrow I'll be in Liverpool, so here's a sketch I did there a couple of years back, on the day we interred my mother's ashes in her hometown - as I cycled to Waterloo and sketched this group of buildings on South Rd before returning to family and going to the cemetery. #ArtYear #UrbanSketching

A #painting from the southwest of Ireland. "Iveragh Peninsula" came out of good times in County Kerry. That's all I'm prepared to say at this point. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm
Wide landscape format in loosely painted acrylics on canvas panel. Mountain slopes from top right to bottom left hosting a patchwork of bright green fields with a white two-story house on right edge halfway up slope from which black line of curving road extends on and around out of sight. Door is front and centre with a window either side, with 3 windows on the front upper story, one on the upper gable and one on the lower story extension at the rear of the gable. Door and all windows are black. A white chimney is on either end of a blue slate roof. Sea is very pale blue. Two green irregular-shaped islands, close together and each with a small hill, break the horizon. Sky is a watery blue-green in soft horizontal strokes with hints of an under-painting of red showing through closer to the horizon. Fields are of different greens, with some being a yellow green, some an orange-green, and several being blue-green. Hedgerows are single dark strokes alongside a field. Across the road from the house the slope drops sharply with black lines between the greens indicating the drop. Behind and above the house are two large fields and the tops of two further hills. Below the house and to the left are dozens of fields in the patchwork. The mountain slope, the house, the islands, and the horizon, are all outlined in solid black lines of varying thickness. The photo was taken before I signed the painting.

A new #painting sold last month. "Clew Bay Boat" came out of a day cycling by the County Mayo bay when I was arrested by the yellow presence of Girl Catriona somewhere near Murrisk. As I have a soft spot for Nephin I stood so the boat lined up with the mountain, then said, yes. #ArtYear #SpeirGhorm
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. Bottom half of the painting is the bay with the little yellow fishing boat just right of centre. It is facing left and has a wheelhouse at the back, its top half white and bottom the yellow-orange of the hull. Tied to its rear it has two dark little shapes like boats floating behind it. Orange seaweed is floating in clumps in the foreground, thicker closer to the bottom right corner. The bay is rendered in millions of short horizontal strokes of pale blue, aqua, lilac and mid blue, causing a rippling effect - except in the foreground around the seaweed where it is a brighter flatter pale teal, and also on the far side of the bay where narrow bands of pale blues stretch horizontally the full width of the painting. The land on the far side of the water is a horizontal band of green of flat drumlins basically, some of which are peninsulas and some of which are islands in the bay. The main piece has fields of bright green sloping down to the water to the right slightly, and they are separated by parallel hedgerows of a darker green. Behind that hill is a sliver of paler green undulating hills and behind than on the left edge are a couple of purple rounded hills but further back dominating the upper third of the painting is the mountain of Nephin, a blue pyramidal stand alone mountain with a rounded peak. It is slightly off centre to the right, ultimately directly in line with the boat. The sky is a watery sunny sky of pale blue and white mixed into a smokey cloudy effect, generally more blue higher up and paler closer to the mountains. Signed bottom left, Liam Daly

Genuinely sorry to everyone who probably would prefer no political stuff in their feed but when it threatens peoples livelihoods and day to day life i simply cant stay quiet. You have a voice and you should always use it, especially when those in power are trying to forcibly shut you up.

Landscape format in acrylics on backing board. The bottom two thirds is the lake with its shore in the foreground. A jagged humpbacked mountain sits on the horizon. It is in many knobbly segments in greys and magenta with a golden bottom, lower steep slopes and highlighted bits dotted along several sections of its higher parts between the darker greys and magenta. Slopes of other mountains begin at the left edge in ochre and dark green, and a small pale blue peaked mountain in the distance seen in the gap between them. The lake is a grey green, dark in the centre, pale along the far edge at the base of the mountain and on the far left side by its soft shore. The end of the stone jetty peeps out from the right edge in the foreground. It is rendered in dark magenta and greys where it is in shadow, and in pale grey on its walking surface and three steps to the water. An older #painting for you. "Killarney". Show me a straight road with a bend, anywhere in Ireland, line it with shops and pubs and eating places, then stick a church in there somewhere, and I'll happily paint it. This is how the County Kerry town looked to me once upon a time. #ArtYear #SpeirGorm
Landscape format in loosely painted acrylics on canvas panel. View down a street as it bends away to the right. The sky is a smokey yellow, and white lower down. Street surface is mostly pink with some blue, some yellow on the right, and a small amount of orange, all painted following the direction of the street. Buildings are mostly three stories high, brightly coloured in red, yellow, orange, pink, white or blue, with contrasting sketchy colour strokes for windows. Most have shop fronts at street level, and lilac roofs and chimneys, with a couple having dormer windows. In lilac-grey a church with steeple is at end of street. A couple of lamp-posts bend their lights into the street from each side. This photograph was taken before I signed the painting.
