10 years ago, the dystopian vision in TEN YEARS stirred up much controversy. 10 years on, how much of that imagination has become reality?

Banned in Hong Kong, but screening in #London at Hong Kong Film Festival UK on 14 Sept (Sunday).

Not to be missed.

Hong Kong Film Archive presents "Tracing Qin and Han Through Cinema" — a theme clearly tailored for a “Chinese Culture” festival, while picks stretch beyond period epics...

Anyway, thanks for having me write all the English blurbs for this programme!

When the Chinese Communist Party is rapidly rewriting Hong Kong's history, the need to preserve our stories has never been so imminent.

Thanks Hong Kong Action Archives for archiving so many artefacts and documents, and curating some of their collections in “Ways of Remembering” at Hoxton Arches.

Attended the opening of “Laughter Double Bill: Hong Kong Comedy Film Spectacular” by HK Film Archive. Thanks for commissioning me to write the English blurbs for all 16 comedies in this programme. Happy to be involved in this amusing screening series.

Two weeks ago I gave a guest lecture to students studying MA in Film Studies at UCL. Happy to share my observations about Hong Kong cinema and my experience working in the Hong Kong film sector. Thank you Tom @reelingdays.bsky.social for the invitation!

My latest journal article in IMAGES's special issue on "Censorship in Film and Audio-Visual Media". I tried to draw on my own experience as an ex-officer in Hong Kong's Film Censorship Authority, my knowledge in film industry, and my academic studies.

Thanks Alex for the kind words on my translation of David Clarke's book on HK Art, also for mentioning the book on HK cinema that I translated for late Dr. Esther Cheung.

//《香港藝術》是蕭恒譯筆下作品,數年前讀過同是由他翻譯張美君博士的香港電影研究論文集《幻魅都巿》,流暢簡明易讀。《香港藝術》也帶著這份信達雅,讓人重頭認識祈大衞,在西方主流論述對東方藝術的盲點以外,引入本土觀察,與香港藝術文化研究史可以怎樣被詮釋。//

Diaspora within and beyond the cinema has never been so relevant to Hong Kong as an imagined community, and I feel an urge to discuss this.

Thanks Transtext(e)s editors @jennywcreative.bsky.social and @gblee.bsky.social for publishing this paper by me and Wong Ching.

David Clarke’s HONG KONG ART: CULTURE AND DECOLONIZATION is a must-read for anyone studying Hong Kong art history. It’s my honour to have translated this seminal work into Chinese. The Chinese version has just been published in Hong Kong!
