Excited to have guested on the fabulous @aotas.bsky.social to chat about this story which I’ve always loved. Such a shame I’m a quiz ignoramus…! 😬
“Yes Jamie, it IS a big one!”

We’re joined by the delightful @simonmoore.bsky.social from @flightthroughentirety.com as we tackle the era defining epic, The War Games.

I’ve known Brett Weymark for 20+ years - still funny, thoughtful & just a little cheeky. In this week’s In Conversation, he shares his journey from school singalongs to the Opera House stage.

Our final 500 Yr Diary for this season was a surprising addition - as I suspect was the fact The Well ended up being a return to Midnight. Our musings below. Looking forward to a return later in the year…
The surprising return of a decades-old monster leads not only to the urgent revision of a long-dormant TARDIS Wikia page, but also to an unexpected addition to the current season of 500 Year Diary. So join us for one more visit to Midnight — it’s The Well.

To my mind, #doctorwho took a massive step backwards for S23. Our look at Mindwarp below, where I also wax lyrical about the brilliance of Sil’s first outing, too. There’s a lot crammed into this one!
This week, the 1980s brings back its most iconic original villain (possibly) to face off against the Sixth Doctor for the second time. But is the reunion a success? @kateorman.bsky.social joins us to talk about Sil and Mindwarp.

A story whose promise is let down by a succession of poor choices in its realisation and execution, is where I ended up landing in this, our take on the Season 21 opener Warriors of the Deep. Commence ignition Scibus!
This week, the Earth’s original inhabitants wake up from hibernation after about a decade, put on their best fibreglass vests and samurai outfits, and invade an undersea base at 0.5× speed. The Silurians and Sea Devils are back — but why?

Getting into the nitty gritty with this story which has much to commend it but doesn’t quite live up to its potential
This week, the people of the planet Manussa are about to discover that all their ancient myths are true, and that their own thirst and dissatisfaction are rearing up to strike them in rubbery serpentine form. @kateorman.bsky.social joins us.

Our warmish take below on the latest #doctorwho installment. Light hearted and light weight but the brilliant Freddie Fox does his best to add some gravitas (sorry, mavitas).
This week, the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest is disrupted by a violent act of terrorism and then reinstated by an act of camp fabulosity, complete with comedy montage and everything. And then, to top it off, the [redacted] shows up.

An honour to spend an hour with the legendary @mrmichaelball.bsky.social, in Aus for the #LesMiserables arena tour. 🎧 Apple: bit.ly/InCon190a & Spotify: bit.ly/InCon190s. He’s a generous and gregarious guy and we had a lot of laughs.

Fascinating to spend an hour with cellist and composer Peter Gregson. Thanks to a fortuitous encounter with Alan Rickman, Peter has been composing music for film & TV, including Bridgerton. Peter has written a new work for the Omega Ensemble for their upcoming tour.

Is Orbit the episode which the entire existence of Blake’s 7 was working its way towards all along? Well, yes, of course it was. Hear why, below!
This week, we finally meet someone whose breathless adoration of Servalan nearly rivals our own.

In which we discuss an episode where the sum is less than its fabulous parts. Sand. And a romantic dinner for two.
It's Sand! Which, like Tarrant this week, gets everywhere, as he discovers that even after fixing the food machine for her, Servalan will still have him for breakfast.

UK broadcaster, writer and composer Stephen Johnson is exactly the kind of presenter I idolised as a child (and still do). Some might call it “old school" presenting but I would call it "actual" presenting. Stephen talks candidly about mental health, music’s healing power, and more bit.ly/InCon177s

Lovely to catch up with Amy Manford for this week’s In Conversation. A successful soprano, actress AND producer (and ex-gymnast and pole vaulter! 😱), she has loads of talent plus ‘get up and go’ - and the drive to make sure the fireworks happen no matter what! 🎧 bit.ly/InCon175s

🧵 1. Watched the 90min colorised War Games. Was interesting to see a condensed edit even if I don’t think a lot of it worked. It’s edited like a long trailer rather than a tv movie. The ubiquitous presence of loud music is overwhelming and detracts…

Daniel Smith was the perfect guest to kick off In Conversation for 2025. His career path to conducting is the definition of tenacity and persistence - and a lot of talent! What’s more, he grew up only a few streets (and a few years!) from me - in Carlingford!

A discussion about the underrated episode Traitor where I think we all sort of agree it’s underrated. There are some wonderful moment, not to mention large shoulder epaulettes and plenty of black feathers.
This week, we're all eager to find out about this remarkable new police commissioner everyone's talking about on Helotrix. Is it possible that they're in some way familiar?

Such a pleasure and honour to be part of this team. Here are our thoughts on the Moffat and Capaldi eras. To paraphrase the ABC continuity announcers of yore: ‘that’s the final episode of FTE for the time being… but they’ll be back!’
The latest leg of our flight through entirety comes to a gentle landing this week, but before we all head off to collect our luggage, all seven of us take the opportunity to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat in one last retrospective.

Welcome to the second quarter of the 21st Century (ie, the distant future). It won’t be long now before I’ve lived longer in the 21st than the 20th. Yikes.

My lukewarm reaction to a less than lukewarm episode, this year’s Christmas special - some great ideas and good moments but overall for me it just doesn’t come together. My full diatribe on the subject is below…
Steven Moffat is back for his ninth Christmas Special, with a message of either hope or simple nuclear fusion. Also back are his favourite tropes, along with just a soupçon of righteous anger. Merry Christmas, everyone.
