given how this show is entirely revisionist nostalgia cultural signaling, you have to wonder if these sorts of hiccups are unintentional moments of authenticity

it’s always striking how the lore and narrative of the MGS games is drawn exactly from the conspiracy theories discussed here, yet this still doesn’t seem to be a mainstream cultural discussion (and it’s admittedly not an easy topic to broach given the audiences involved)
Henry Ford accused industrialist and statesman Bernard Baruch of being the secret Jewish dictator of the United States. When reporters asked Baruch for comment he said, "Now, boys, you wouldn't expect me to deny that would you?"

fire was allegorically a divine power of creation humans weren’t meant to receive … frankenstein is terrified by fire… wondering if these things are connected somehow? ?

we like to think we're an intelligent and unique species, but most of us don't really come up with anything ourselves. our behaviors are acquired by copying the actions/habits of others, whereas notable intelligence actually conceives or develops new concepts and ideas.

when an adult reaches middle age they will unconsciously, automatically have begun to develop a character (via preferred acting method) to assume throughout the entire day on every Halloween

@dulanyw.bsky.social couldn’t reply on that thread, but presumably you mean a gibson LP? i don’t, but my USA Jackson Soloist had the same pups and would sound the same with the trem blocked off. amusingly i switched out the pups for the classic paul gilbert dimarzios, which is a weird choice lol

Since everyone is talking about these all the time, here's my article about the history and importance of sea shanties. It features interviews with expert maritime historians.

funny thing that has happened three times now:

-a close friend asks for my advice on choosing a quality first preamp to improve home recordings

-I urge them enthusiastically to get a Daking mic pre one (because pushing Daking is evidently my entire personality)

-they get a Focusrite ISA one

the first slot in my 6u 500 series chassis is solder-scorched after 10 years of regular use.

when I bought it (to host these preamps), my intent was to fill the rest of it out as dual channel strips of signal processing. But nothing else I’ve sought since has been available in a 500 format.

Texted a few different friends at like 3am last night, urging them to subscribe to the Criterion Channel. I know this sounds like weird and crazy behavior, which… yes, it kinda is (the not-having-a-CC-subscription part)

stuff could always be crazier. like what if all the other animals drank way too much coffee all the time

was genuinely shocked by rising music gear prices this week when I saw that both the Peavey Classic 30 and Fender Blues Junior 1x12 combo guitar tube amp now sell new for $1000

among the reasons Criterion Channel is the premiere subscription of the moment: they often rotate awful-yet-memorizing period pieces (once a highlight of an HBO subscription!) through their genuinely diverse temporary sub/genre collections

This (as well as the subsequent innovative horror/satire chambara, Makai Tensho) is imo a pinnacle of the genre: a rare big budget ninja/samurai production featuring Chiba’s ‘Tokyo Action Club’ of martial arts stunt pros in lead roles. They made many great films, but rarely ones on this scale.
