I live on the east side of the west coast, work in a concrete bunker studying the ocean, and get lost in the woods for fun 🌲🌊🪶
(6/5 - yes, I didn't plan this very well) I have found this book by Michelle Good to be immensely informative, engaging, yet concise. I highly recommend it to all:

(5/5) So instead of celebrating a piece of cloth that represents these horrors to many people of this land, I strongly feel we should take this time to learn more about the history of our country's relationship with its first peoples, and take some time to consider what WE can do to make it right.

(4/5) BUT I still benefit immeasurably (as do most citizens of Canada who look like me) from the deaths and suffering of generations of First Nations and non-white immigrants, including many of the current generation!

(3/5) However, I have to acknowledge that the rights and freedoms I enjoy here are largely the result of people who look like me exploiting, oppressing, and murdering those who lived here before them. Sure, I didn't do it myself, nor necessarily did any of my direct ancestors, but...

(2/5)To be clear, I love living here. We have some of the most expansive wilderness and best quality of life (for most) of any country in the world. I appreciate many aspects of our system of government, especially when compared to our neighbors to the south(especially these days)

(1/5) Forgot to wish everyone a happy Flag Day 🇨🇦 We should all take some time to ponder the symbolism of our flag, namely how the red signifies the blood of the First Nation peoples (and many immigrant labourers), spilt on the white snows of this country during its creation.

Tonight in
As the World Burns

There is a solution.
And it doesn't cost taxpayers one single additional dime.

Take the subsidies currently feeding fat cats in the fossil fuel industry and used them to build a new, cheaper, more efficient publicly owned grid, induction charging highways.

So here is the thing: You know how lottery winners often end up bankrupt because they have no idea how to handle so much money at once, and make all sorts of bad choices? Well, fame is a lottery win, except instead of money you suddenly get (relative) power and access. Guess how people do with it.
Can I not have one person I admire just like y’know not let power corrupt them.

If someone

a) has a financial incentive to oppose green energy,

b) has never given a shit about whales before,

and

c) is a lying liar,

There’s no reason to treat their claim that “we have to stop green energy to save the whales” as a serious point raised in good faith.
