(6/5 - yes, I didn't plan this very well) I have found this book by Michelle Good to be immensely informative, engaging, yet concise. I highly recommend it to all:

(5/5) So instead of celebrating a piece of cloth that represents these horrors to many people of this land, I strongly feel we should take this time to learn more about the history of our country's relationship with its first peoples, and take some time to consider what WE can do to make it right.

(4/5) BUT I still benefit immeasurably (as do most citizens of Canada who look like me) from the deaths and suffering of generations of First Nations and non-white immigrants, including many of the current generation!

(3/5) However, I have to acknowledge that the rights and freedoms I enjoy here are largely the result of people who look like me exploiting, oppressing, and murdering those who lived here before them. Sure, I didn't do it myself, nor necessarily did any of my direct ancestors, but...

(2/5)To be clear, I love living here. We have some of the most expansive wilderness and best quality of life (for most) of any country in the world. I appreciate many aspects of our system of government, especially when compared to our neighbors to the south(especially these days)
