I juggle fursuit making with parenting two small kids, which is also a full time job I assure you. I do have a partner who earns enough income to support us. My income supplies our trip/fun budget, and pays for art supplies so I can do what I love. Endlessly grateful.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"
The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

I came out when I was 19 in 2004. (40 now) it was a pretty different world then. My mom was terrified I’d be attacked in the street. I can tell how far we’ve come. It’s really far, guys. We didn’t know many older gays. Because of HIV..

🏳️⚧️ I came out as trans online at age 33-34 and then on a larger scale this past month!
