I feel like they would think that it means someone hung up on them instead of understanding that they can make a phone call. Because the sound is still used in media to show that someone has hung up on a phone call but since modern phones(we pretty much just use cellphones) don't use a dial tone.

I would love to see the results of a sociological study where a dial tone is played for Gen Alpha. Would they understand what it is and if they do recognize it, would the meaning of it change.
