The Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF) in Brazil convicted former president Jair Bolsonaro of plotting a coup and sentenced him to 27 years in prison. Brazil’s highest court, the STF is responsible for adjudicating criminal cases against presidents and other top government officials.

On June 11, as the Colombian legislature debated labor reform, President Gustavo Petro signed a decree calling for a referendum on labor reform, which was later suspended. Petro then pledged to include a special ballot in the next elections to call for a constituent assembly.
