This is definitely a somewhat unique issue of the furry fandom, but I think at base level, the price of admission to Furry is respect for the nature of the fandom, i.e. expressing a(n anthropomorphic) personal identity.

Failure to do so is what gets you kicked out of an otherwise fairly open space.

I've had this happen more than once. It's frustrating, for sure. It's not that hard to come up with your own character. Artists are selling adoptables all the time if you don't feel up to crafting a look on your own. Don't insult the creator and belittle their efforts by doing this, please.
