The best Harvard Business review article I've ever seen?
Side-by-side test of a 'good' strategy visualisation slide vs a 'bad' one of the same strategy. Both still pretty basic design most people could pull off in G-Slides.

How to measure something as complex (and hyped) as 'narrative change'? Concise article on latest thinking:
- 3 'buckets' (Culture, StratComms, Organising) & how they blend
- 4 steps to start with (most only do #1 & #2)
- 4 principles ("Focus on contribution > attribution")

In another case of "actually quite good comms by EU leadership?!"

This disinformation 'factcheck' post is:
✅ Lighthearted
✅ References the lie without repeating it
✅ Ascribes motivation to the liars to help innoculate Vs future disinformation
✅ Squeezes in proactive message

Great blog for people like me and most of the orgs I work with who worry about compromised US tech services but feel: "well, even if it's not legal, at least you'd be wrong with everyone else".

Along with very practical steps and Martijn's own experience this gives a lot of reassurance its possible
In my last article I briefly mentioned a preference for European services. To elaborate, I posted the article: martijnhols.nl/blog/moving-...

It's a bit off-topic for my blog. After the upcoming "hug of death" article, I'll circle back to front-end/React based stuff.
Moving away from US cloud services by Martijn Hols
Relying on US cloud services poses legal and political risks for EU users, so I'm moving away from US cloud services. Here's how and why I did it.

Politics of arms-races aside, I am unequivocably in favour of EU figures using original and (you've got to hand it to VDL) baddass heavy-metal language.

151 years ago John Stuart Mill had a response to "natural = better" that works equally well for conservative anti-gender, survival-of-the-fittest arguments as it does for your in-laws' opinions on groceries & medicines.

A few years ago, we worked with NEON, @350.org, and a bunch of grassroots groups across the UK on Framing Climate Justice. We wanted to work out how to communicate about climate change in ways that would lead to wide-scale action, and stay grounded in racial justice values

A Dutch court today ruled that Prime Minister Dick Schoof’s government must ramp up efforts to cut nitrogen pollution in protected nature areas, handing Greenpeace Netherlands a significant legal win.

We can and must take back control of renewable energy, because democratic public ownership is the only way to get to where the world needs to go. And it'll be faster, fairer, greener, and cheaper for us individually on the way.

I have the fortune/misfortune to encounter a lot of 'activism-adjacent' artists and the unsaid 2nd half of this sentence is "art is not about politics or solving problems - that would be too much more effort than just appropriating a 'political vibe' to make my art seem more topical"
This is enraging, like a ball of heat in the middle of my chest. What the everloving fuck. Give that man a portion of the sale, what the fuck is wrong with you

I took MEA on one of my last flights out of Beirut, and I remember how much everyday conversation centred on the last remaining airlines serving Ebola-era Freetown, and post-Kony northern Uganda.

Strong potential for a Le Carre-style novel in this.
Great piece on Lebanon’s airline. The only time I flew them the in-flight film was about their history, with happy old pilots reminiscing: “We bought some new planes! We were so proud! Then they were bombed/hijacked/stolen. So we bought some new planes! Then, believe it or not…”
