A sad day for the Royal Navy.

No conjecture. No urban myths. No rumours. Just analysis from people who have been to sea on Type 42 destroyers.

Folks episode two is up of our Air Raid Warning Red series. Now, this is a bit nerdy but if you really want to understand what a close run thing the battle was, we felt it’s important to understand the kit a d tactics being used.

Five years. Two Adriatic patrols, an epic Far East jolly and some great times.
Lean about life at sea. Mess parties, S10 respirators and beer, five deck dashes and a disastrous cheese and wine party down 6D2 Warfare mess. Read about it here!

HMS Exeter 2008. A month after this was taken, she decommissioned. She was my first ship in 1990. She had been down the Falklands in 1982, and when I joined was preparing for war in the Persian Gulf. /1

Gunnery is funnery. You’ll have seen the black and white photo on our latest podcast Through The Gunsight. This is a good explanation of how a very simple aiming reticule works. It’s not of course tailored for anti-surface shoots so you’d very lead ‘lead’ tracer onto target.
