School head who sued parents over ‘campaign of abuse’ and won

A landmark case that finally recognises the abuse some HT’s face from a small minority of toxic parents. Unfortunately this happens in too many schools and is ruining too many school leaders lives.

Everyone should read this to get a better understanding of this Ofsted charade #Ofsted
Recently I called Sir Martyn Oliver, the chief inspector of Ofsted, a liar on 'X'. Despite this, Ofsted very kindly walked me through their proposals for the new inspection system. I am sorry to say that my feelings are probably even more entrenched than they were before…

Today we have released new data showing that more than nine in 10 (93%) school leaders do not have confidence in Ofsted to design an effective new inspection framework.

Teaching is one of the most important jobs for the future of the country and as a society we need to start valuing our educators. The fact that the pay rise for train drivers is 15%, doctors 22% and teachers a mere 5% with a proposed 2.5% next year really says it all #education #teaching #schools

It’s the time of year when I have to post one of the best Christmas tweets, you might have to be Irish and of a certain age to see the funny side….

Banning smartphones in schools is only half way to solving the problem, it’s out of school where the worst offences occur, there needs to be a radical overhaul, let’s see what happens in Australia
The government doesn't believe a national ban on smartphones in schools is needed, because schools are doing it for themselves. But are they? We investigate where the battlelilnes are being drawn in schools' war on phones
The schools waging war on smartphones
As fear mounts over the impact of smartphones on young people, what does being a phone free school really mean?

One thing that has really jumped out at me on my school visits:
Many Head teachers rarely get a proper night’s sleep, this, on top of working 12+ hours a day, this is surely not sustainable #education #schools

Might be a good idea to talk to the many schools (in London anyway) who already run breakfast clubs.
🥣 'Breakfast clubs could become a powerful symbol of effective government - or a cautionary tale. The difference lies in their execution'

The delay to Labour's breakfast clubs is the right call
A number of other factors must be in place to ensure the policy is a success

I tend to look at Ofsted reports before visiting a school, usually to see what the areas of development are, so many of them have similar targets, something to do with humanities and children’s recall of previous learning, waste of time and no help #Ofsted hopefully this will improve

Now that I’m sort of semi retired I go swimming a few times a week. It never ceases to amaze me that most Mondays the pool is packed with school age children, have I missed something? is Monday now part of the weekend? #attendance #school

So you take this tag from the Christmas tree and buy a present which the child’s dad will give to him on his visit to the prison, great idea

I learned today that 100 years ago a priest called Father Benson wrote a dystopian sci fi book called The Lord of the World saying that in early 21st century (ie now) the world would end with an antichrist in charge, sounds a bit scarily familiar, cheerful place Mass!

3/3 But we are in danger of losing the best people from education due to burnout, stress and lack of respect for the profession, for our children’s future, this must be urgently addressed #education

This is so refreshing, I know there are many like her who love their job, but we usually hear the negative stories. I remember feeling that way for most of my time as head teacher. Teaching and school leadership are fantastic careers, for most people it is the best job in the world #education

I met a friend the other day who is new to the role of Deputy head teacher. She has worked her way up from Teaching Assisstant and she is rightly very proud of herself, she also has Imposter Syndrome…. She told me she wakes up every morning excited to go into school as she loves the job so much 1/2
