Happy they linked to my press release on a @wrightstateu.bsky.social study showing over 40% of deceased drivers in motor vehicle crashes tested positive for THC. No matter your stance on legalization, we can all agree that driving high endangers everyone 🚭🚗 www.facs.org/media-center...

Smaller fish may hold the key to healthier diets and ecosystems, according to @cornelluniversity.bsky.social researchers with details in @cp-oneearth.bsky.social.

Smaller, nutrient-dense fish are lower in mercury and less prone to overfishing and extinction. A win-win for health and environment 🐠

James Riley is an unlikely comedy show organizer as an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Fellow with @unibirmingham.bsky.social. Dr. Riley created “Climate Change is NOT Funny!” bringing together professional comedians and environmental researchers with results in @jscicom.bsky.social. 🎤
Climate change is (NOT) funny - Comedians and Researchers Get Together Not Just for Laughs
As research accumulates showcasing the various harms of climate change, a pressing question becomes how to convey the gravity of the crisis without invoking a complete sense of doom.

@ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social scientists dug into Arctic region lakes to see if gas emissions would change when even deeper soil is exposed. The results were published in @naturegeosci.bsky.social

Gases from the deep soil sample had 2x the global warming potential at warmer temperatures.
Beyond the Surface Level: Arctic Lakes Could Fuel the Climate Crisis
The tundra has started thawing with rising temperatures.

Papilio troilus, the spicebush swallowtail, uses clever defenses. As caterpillars, they mimic bird poop, then develop eye spots to look like snakes. A study found eye spots work only when caterpillars hide in rolled leaves, showing their behavior impacts how well this "disguise" deters predators.
Caterpillars Play Game of Peek-a-boo with Predators
The caterpillar's change of surroundings makes their green snake disguise more successful. This "peek-a-boo" scares off potential predators, but they are not so easily fooled on an open leaf.

Researchers from the University of Cambridge used MRI and modeling to compare the brains of preterm and term infants. They created detailed "connectomes" to map neural connections, finding reduced connectivity, shorter connection lengths, and lower network efficiency in preterm infants.
Premature birth changes wiring constraints in neonatal structural brain networks - Nature Communications
How premature birth alters the organization of structural brain networks is unclear. Here, the authors use a generative algorithm to demonstrate that preterm infants have tighter network wiring constr...

With everything going on with health insurance, I just noticed that Northwestern Medicine completely removed their public-facing leadership page. Pretty wild that this is extending to care providers as well.
