Ok through trial and error (and intense shame) I think I have finally found a system that will work for me long term in terms of commissions.
So I present my commission options my dear lovelies.

Commissions Menu Starters (design) $30-50 A single sheet with a standard pose where i bring the concept to life for future reference. Simple Illustration $75 I do a more detailed illustration meant for budget friendly commissioners. Lacks detail but is finished more quickly. Main Courses Fully rendered artwork $300 A fully realized option for the clients who know what they want and are willing to pay for it, complete with a border, simple background, and complete rendering.

it really is shocking how much self deprecation is seen as a cultural requirement for 'serious art.' 'real' artists are not allowed to exalt their work and must present it publicly as a sort of 'i dont think this is very good but maybe you will get around to it.' HECK THAT. love yourself

Next Friday I am going to be getting a somewhat large paycheck, I dont have a TON of money. But I have enough I want to commission some artists. Ive recently learned of the insane wealth gap between where I live and where other artists live. So I want to try and help as many people as possible.

I will say for all of liberals talk about how California is the promised land out of the 7 states ive worked in it has by FAR the most abusive and archaic break and lunch policies and labor abuses of anywhere ive ever worked.

I did the math and if I wanted to do real full card arts like for my characters it would cost 325 dollars each which I just can't imagine anyone wanting to pay.
