Since 2004, we have ran projects in Africa and Latin America to develop sustainable enterprises, advance gender equality, build climate resilience and improve livelihoods for thousands of producers within the world's most disadvantaged communities.

Our projects span diverse communities, from vegetable farmers with disabilities in Burkina Faso to coffee farmers in Rwanda. In Ivory Coast, we assisted young cocoa farmers in improving farm productivity through sustainable practices.
In April 2025, we launched a project with Nicaraguan coffee co-op Sacaclí to support 40 women farmers to produce new crops to create a crucial and sustainable additional source income.

At each co-operative, five plots were chosen. Three plots were sprayed with new biopesticides, one plot with an existing pesticide and one with water to act as control.

Tarpaulins were placed around the base of cocoa trees to catch pests killed and establish which biopesticide is most effective.

In the summer, Shared Interest Foundation Manager, Kodzo, visited Côte d'Ivoire to support ongoing activities, including field trials and farmer training at four co-operatives including ECAKOOG (pictured), a cocoa co-operative supporting over 4,000 farmers.

30% to 40% of cocoa is lost annually due to pests. Innovation is needed to address this challenge.

Working with Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, University of Ghana and RICE, this project will develop a new eco-friendly, affordable biopesticide to reduce cocoa loss and boost organic production.

The funding is supporting 150 women producing shea butter by constructing a processing facility and a borehole, as well as mechanising the production process.

Dan said: “At first I was fearing bees, but after training I was convinced I could be friends with them ... I got more knowledge and courage."

By the end of this project, we aim to support Banyankole farmers to produce 35kg of honey each year, and 50% more coffee over the next four years.
