After surviving a fever in 1776, the Quaker formerly known as Jemima Wilkinson declared they had died and been reborn as a new, genderless person with a spiritual calling. Adopting the name Public Universal Friend, avoiding pronouns, and dressing androgynously, they attracted faithful followers.

Alice Paul was a Quaker and a key figure in the women's rights movement. She organized demonstrations, that, along with her heroic conduct while imprisoned for the cause, changed public opinion and led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave some women the right to vote in 1920.

Today at 5pm, we will gather at the meetinghouse for a potluck meal featuring black-eyed pea soup and cornbread (meal prep will be happening at 4:30 to 5 p.m.). Then we will have midweek Meeting for Worship in person and on Zoom as usual, at 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Settle yourself into the hour of silence. At any time, someone may be moved by the Spirit to stand and share a message. Worship is over when a designated person shakes hands with their neighbor.
