In Bolivia’s Cordillera Real, the Condoriri Massif soars skyward in the shape of a condor with wings spread.. 🦅
Its glaciers have lost 50% of their mass since the 1960s, yet they remain an important lifeline, providing drinking water for nearly 2 million people in La Paz and El Alto. 💧🚰💧
This photograph captures the breathtaking Condoriri Massif in Bolivia’s Cordillera Real, a rugged mountain range that lies about 30 kilometers northeast of La Paz at roughly 16° south of the equator, making it one of the world’s most equatorial glaciated regions. In the foreground, turquoise waters of Laguna Chiar Khota shimmer under the high-altitude sun, framed by a rustic stone wall of piled rocks that hints at the region’s Andean cultural heritage. Rising dramatically in the background are the snow-capped peaks of the Condoriri group, named for their resemblance to a condor with wings spread in flight. The central summit, Cabeza del Cóndor, towers to 5,648 meters above sea level, flanked by Ala Izquierda (5,532 m) and Ala Derecha (5,482 m), their black rock faces sharply contrasted by lingering glaciers. It still blows my mind that Voyager 1 has been travelling through space at over 60,000 km/h for as long as Ive been alive - and it still hasn’t even reached the Oort Cloud.. 🤯🤯🤯

It should reach the edge in about 300 years from now! 🚀
