Got a new Waterpik per WireCutter recommendation

It's a proprietary connector on one end with USB-A on the other

I had a lot of fun playing with CKSyncEngine over the last little bit, but had quite a few questions, so I thought I'd detail some answers plus insights I encountered to save other folks some time christianselig.com/2026/01/cks...
CKSyncEngine questions and answers
I didn't know what to put as a header so here are some iClouds (interesting clouds) in Maine I’ve had a lot of fun working with CKSyncEngine over the last month or so. I truly think it’s one of the best APIs Apple has built, and they’ve managed to take a very complex topic (cloud syncing) and make it very digestible and easy to integrate, without having to get into the weeds of CKOperation and whatnot like you had to in previous years.

Hot take: Apple CarKey is pretty great, but it’s still not as reliable as Tesla’s proprietary Bluetooth solution

Has anyone ever successfully cleaned those stainless steel air fryer baskets? Mine has developed a slight polymerized layer that despite my best efforts (boiling water + baking soda, Bar Keeper's Friend, etc.) I cannot put a dent in

Partly considering moving from Safari to a Chromium browser because I had no idea how much faster the full screen video transition was

Quite a few have asked which robo vac I landed on, and (not sponsored!) I landed on the Dreame L40 Ultra. Under $500 on BF sale right now and has pretty much every modern feature you'd want. Only gripe is I wish it was shorter

I was trying to figure out what kind of plant was growing next to my ginkgo and I finally dug it up. My neighbor feeds blue jays peanuts, and one must have dropped a peanut into my plant bed. Nature is wild

TIL that M4 Macs (but not M5?) support HDMI CEC, could be cool for a home theater PC (I don't think any PCs support this?) support.apple.com/en-ca/108928

Mac computers can use an HDMI cable or adapter to connect to a TV, display, or other HDMI device.

Picked up a new robot vacuum and it's remarkable the progress these make every few years. Some of my favorite tech, period

This month is my 10 year anniversary of graduating with a Computer Science degree and I've still never had to manually write a linked list :)

If today's USB-A Defender Squad existed 25 years ago we'd still have floppy disks

Saw a bunch of posts wondering how the App Store logo works (is it just sticks??), so I made a little 3D printed visualization of the 3 tilted app icons that come together to make it, it's really quite clever!

Makes for a fun desk ornament too ☺️

Curious for folks who have gone from an M1 series Mac to an M… higher: does Xcode's AI autocomplete load any quicker on the newer chips? I yearn for Cursor level speed but I assume Xcode is trying to do it all locally?

My spooky Halloween surprise was… after a half decade it looks like one of the mini LEDs in my XDR finally gave up the ghost. 575 to go 😢

Nothing nerve-wracking at all about getting an unprompted email from App Review late on a Friday with no details 🙃

Anyone ever do a good writeup on using VS Code or Cursor in lieu of Xcode? Seems capable but curious how folks improve the base autocomplete (ideally to match Xcode's) plus warnings/compiling

Okay I give up: how does Codex permission model work? I want it to ALWAYS ask for approval like this. Normally it does great, sometimes it just claims it can't do this anymore despite /status being identical

Claude is so much dumber than Codex but the tooling is so much better
