Some of you might know I'm trying to learn Spanish. My teacher says that keeping a journal is a good idea. Having to write stuff down helps with memory and recall.

I learned last night in my Spanish conversation group that in Mexico the equivalent of "Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted" is "Cover the well after the child has drowned". Much more impactful!
Also, unsurprisingly Spanish people aren't familiar with the use of bolt as a verb!

yes, this: "balanced news" is not "news I agree with". It's more likely to be "news I don't agree with". And that, broadly, is a good thing.
Also that lots of people talk about these three things but don’t actually want them, they want news they agree with.
We all insist that’s something *other people* do, not ourselves, but there’s a lotttt of it about.

Objectivity, impartiality and balance are all *different things*, and the lazy tendency to treat them as synonyms, and to use partisan balance alone as a proxy for the others, is the root cause of a vast amount of nonsense.

Until I die, I will never understand why so many motorists think that “having a car” should give you special protections from doing crimes.
Year one: "We can work it out as an estimate"
Year two: "Oh, look, lots of people are dodging the system!"
Year three: "We need to fit mandatory trackers to every car in the country."
Year four plus: "Why shouldn't tracker data be used in evidence? What have people got to hide?"

I don’t think think “estimated road use” is right approach - at the least drivers should have the *option* of getting a black box fitted that just tracks their EVs usage, but come on, Mel, impersonate a serious politician!

Always remember this place is run by Yanks, so this advice is vitally important. Remember those people will shoot each other in the face but absolutely freak out at the word 'cunt'.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.
