Remember to share the shore this weekend!

If you’re headed to the beach, please:

1. Leash your dogs where required by law.
2. Don't chase birds.
3. Stay at least 50 yards away from wildlife.
4. Respect posted signage.
5. Clean up after yourself and your pets.

This area of La Jolla is one of the few natural areas where Western Gulls nest in the county. PLEASE GIVE THEM SPACE. It is illegal to disrupt an active nest under both the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and California State Law.

Did you know? The color of an owl’s eyes can tell you when it’s most active. If an owl has yellow eyes, it often hunts during the day; orange eyes, it hunts at dawn/dusk; and if it has brown eyes then it generally hunts at night 🦉

Say hello to the Spotted Sandpiper.

Their constant tail-bobbing motion is unique. It might help with balance, waterproofing, or hunting. But scientists aren’t entirely sure why they do it!

We'd love to hear your theory: why do you think spotted sandpipers bob like this?

Work continues on vital fire mitigation measures at Silverwood thanks to funding from the San Diego River Conservancy.

Urban Corps of San Diego County recently cleared thirteen 60-gallon trash bags full of poison oak! We are thankful for this support to keep Silverwood safe!

Did you know? A favorite of hummingbirds, fleshy lupine is a nitrogen-fixing plant; it helps enrich the soil with nutrients. In folklore and mythology, lupines are linked with imagination, creativity, and renewal.

It’s also native to San Diego, and can be spotted at Anstine-Audubon Nature Preserve.
