If you don't build new housing, old housing becomes luxury housing, example 749,900. When Fairlington was converted to condos in 1972, the units went for around $32,000, which would be about $244,000 in today's dollars.

If you can completely clear your driveway for two cars, you should be able to find a way to clear the sidewalk in front of your house. The snow storm was more than 8 days ago.

What do people think they are accomplishing when they send nasty messages to their civic association board members? And the juvenile insult. I mean come on, I'm not a Mellinneial and I'm way too old to do pub crawls.

A quick visit to Athens included some short trips on Metro Lines 1 & 2, plus some short bus trips, followed by a long trek to the Airport on Line 3. Every trip was full, including a sardine-can experience on the A2 bus line in the afternoon. The morning trip (pictured) was half empty by comparison.

Thessaloniki Metro Line 1. Just over a year old. Still has the shiny look and new metro smell. Automated, screen doors on all the platforms, and it's quite frequent, even on Boxing Day. Roman ruins uncovered during construction are visible at Venizelou station. Fare machines could be improved.

Finally got to visit the Schwebebahn in Wuppertal as part of a family tour of German Christmas Markets. Quite fun and an interesting way to squeeze a rapid transit line into a tight space. Has the frequency but the cars are rather small and quite full with the shoppers!

A few thoughts on why the latent popularity of car-free living hasn’t translated to the funding changes necessary to make it possible:

The millions of people who would like to drive less aren’t organized, so elected officials rarely hear from them, allowing the car-dominated status quo to fester.

Reminder: autonomous vehicles don't solve the geometric problem of space in cities and may make the problem worse by turning parking into traffic.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

I've always loved the exposed rock at MARTA's Peachtree Center in downtown Atlanta.

Excited to see the release of the MARTA NextGen Bus Network. Our team has led the concepts and policy conversation and were central to the network service planning. Looking forward to getting public feedback so we can make this network even better.
