If Republicans don't care, then we need to actually fight a battle and make them pay for it.
Was the possibility that Repubs would dig in and refuse to compromise because they don’t care about Dem priorities not considered before this began? If it was, was “calling attention to the issues” (the only thing achieved) worth doing this? Is a shutdown the only way to do that?

Perception is reality in politics, Democratic Politicians won huge victories in the most recent elections because they were finally standing up to right wing extremism. We are at war, at some point politicians like Schumer need to win a battle, not keep surrendering.
