I think love is the truest miracle. Love in a climate of hate. The one clear thing in chaos. The clarity of knowing in all the not knowing that this is obedience. The highest and hardest calling. It’s not sappy, lazy or ill-informed. Love is fearsome. The single most threatening defense that exists.

Beware of any Christian who defends or affirms the inaction of the priest & the Levite in Jesus’ parable about the Good Samaritan. And certainly don’t give them any authority; they are either incandescently dense or unashamedly wicked.

What a shallow, shriveled gospel we claim to hold if it doesn't include the things Bishop Mariann Budde said in her sermon. "Because God has extended hospitality and mercy to us, that requires us to extend hospitality and mercy to others."

Remember: in the gospels, Jesus got the most upset with those who use religion as a tool of oppression and self serving power.

You don't see Jesus get upset with anyone for showing too much forgiveness, giving too much mercy, having too much generosity or loving others too much.

Preparing for Bible study this morning. This is one of the most amazing passages in all of Scripture.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
