First sighting of a winter glaucous gull on the west coast of Ireland by a #TeamScottCawley ecologist.
The Larus hyperboreus or Faoileán glas - glaucous is from Latin for grey - the second-largest gull species, breeds in arctic regions. One of only a handful here?
Any more sightings? #GlaucousGull

Hazel catkins open - possibly a little early due to a mild winter - snapped by a #TeamScottCawley member. Note on the right, the small female flower bud. Clouds of golden pollen are dispersed by the male yellow catkins - blowing towards the bright pink buds of trees for #pollination

Two stunning shots of the #auroraborealis or #NorthernLights captured by a #TeamScottCawley ecologist in Galway, despite quite a bit of fog in the area.

The amazing light show was seen further south than usual in many places in both Ireland and around the world due to a solar geomagnetic storm

Evidence of a woodpecker! Formerly absent from Ireland, 15 years ago a number of Great Spotted Woodpeckers (as Gaeilge, Mórchnagaire breac) are thought to have flown across the Irish Sea, Wales to Wicklow/Scotland to Down. Since then, expanding into new areas.

80% of our food crops and wild flowering plants depend on pollination.

Yet one-third of bee, butterfly and hoverfly species is in decline.

Our new EU Pollinator Monitoring Scheme aims to help reverse this trend by 2030.
