We wrote a book! I'm a community history researcher, interested in the history of Blackburn, Lancashire. We put this book together about how the Cotton Exchange came to be and its life before it became a cinema. Lots discovered, lots more to go! 😁

My collection of Blackburn postcards is on display at Blackburn Museum until 23rd August for their "Come as Really You Are" exhibition. The cards go back to the early 1900s and show scenes of Blackburn as it used to be, along with several handwritten messages to family members and businesses.

Hey folks, seeing as it's Pride month, I want to do a little something to boost indie games from LGBTQIA+ developers, so if that's you, please reply with a little bit about your game and a link to your store page. Let's see if we can't get some more eyeballs on your games!

Britain has no idea - in terms of its self-image, not economists obviously - what economy it actually has

One of my favourite facts to point out is: at over £8bn annually, the *videogames industry* is more than twice as valuable to the UK economy as fishing and steel combined.
Men are extremely keen to explain to me that Britain *needs* a domestic steel production plant and doesn't necessarily *need* universities. Okay. Steel contributed about £1.7bn to the UK economy in 2024. Universities contributed more than £200bn.

I wish the games industry would scale back how much they spend on games. It's become too much, needing massive returns to make them sustainable, causing games to fail, boring sequels to become safe bets, and nasty pay to win tactics to get the profits.

I've a new article on Wikipedia for the Blackburn Exchange Assembly Rooms!

These rooms were on Town Hall street and were part of the Cotten Exchange estate. They were home to the early town library, and later hosted travelling speakers including Charles Dickens!

The Exchange Assembly Rooms were on Town Hall Street, Blackburn. Built by the Catholic Brethren in 1860, the rooms were later purchased by the Blackburn Exchange Company and become part of their Cotton Exchange estate, accommodating businesses and entertainment until their demolition in 1936.

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

My son, Alec Egan, has lost everything in this inferno. His house, his studio, & all of his art are gone. When he saw what was left of years of work (& love, & the birth of two children), he said "it is impossible to grasp that all of that life has been reduced to nothing more than a heap of ash."

I'm working on a wiki page and it's the only image I'm missing.
