My introduction to the planning system was when they built a supermarket on heathland near my childhood home. It was a site for the silver-studded blue butterfly.

Sainsbury's made a stained glass window of the butterfly whose habitat they had bulldozed.

I was about eight and I still feel rage.
In California endangered butterfly species' habitat encroached upon by development a bit S of San Francisco. US Fish & Wildlife agency's Habitat Conservation Plans let developers destroy, w/ area set aside elsewhere. It tends to fail. Article from 2010. 🧵 baynature.org/article/deve...

OpenAI doesn't report a single number for its climate impacts - not anywhere, in any way, shape or form.

It sounds kind of obvious but the fact that a company with such incredible electricity hunger isn't disclosing basic information about its energy consumption and associated emissions is v bad..

20 years ago the Indian Ocean tsunami hit our resort in Sri Lanka, and miraculously my family and I all escaped. Almost a quarter of a million people weren't as lucky as us. Today we went to pay our respects at the memorial in the Natural History Museum gardens.
