Official Bluesky account for Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Illinois 9th Congressional District

Got my start as a consumer advocate. Dog mom to Ellie, my golden retriever!
Happy New Year! 🎉🎊🎆

As we enter 2026, I’m grateful for the strength of our community and hopeful for what we can achieve together.

I’ll never stop fighting for families and a more just future.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the 9th District and beyond!

The Constitution isn’t a prop for political theater.

I’m ending Hanukkah feeling grateful and hopeful.

Gathering this weekend at my son’s Hanukkah party was a beautiful reminder that community and love can carry us through even the hardest moments.

May that light guide us forward.

Let’s be clear, today’s deadline was not a suggestion.

The Epstein files must be released immediately.

Not tomorrow, not a month from now, not when Trump and his cronies think it’s time.

Yet again, we are seeing reports of U.S. Border Control agents terrorizing community members in the 9th District. I’m disgusted and outraged.

My team and I are monitoring developments closely and working with local partners to protect our neighbors.
U.S. Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino led a caravan of SUVs through Chicago and into the suburbs Wednesday morning, making at least one arrest in Evanston after a surprise return to the city a day earlier.

There’s a reason attempts to block state AI protections keep failing in Congress: they’re unpopular, undemocratic, and dangerous.

Now the same Big Tech billionaires who stood behind Donald Trump at his inauguration are abusing executive power to get their way.
President Trump signed an executive order that aims to neuter state laws that limit the A.I. industry, granting broad authority to the attorney general to sue states that do not support the "United States’ global A.I. dominance." nyti.ms/44oIXPn

I recently spoke with three mothers who lost a child due to Big Tech’s negligence. For over a decade, they’ve demanded action, and Congress hasn’t delivered.

Congress should not stop states from protecting children.

Families have already paid the ultimate price. Congress must not fail them again.

Everyone, regardless of their immigration status, deserves to live with dignity and without fear.

I'm proud of my community and @govpritzker.illinois.gov for speaking up, standing up, and defending our core American values of equality, justice, and the rule of law.
Today, I've signed into law legislation that expands legal protections for the people of Illinois.

Dropping your kid off at day care, going to the doctor, or attending classes should not be a life-altering task.

We will counter the Trump Administration's depravity.

Let’s be clear — removing minimum staffing standards rewards the nursing home industry and threatens residents’ lives.

We must hold these greedy actors accountable and restore strong staffing standards that put patients first.

Our loved ones deserve access to quality long-term care.

The Trump Administration's decision to roll back CAFE standards will squeeze our wallets, endanger our health, and increase climate pollution.

The Iranian government’s relentless assault on its Baha’i minority is an outrage that demands action.

My updated bipartisan resolution with Rep. McCaul sends a stronger, unified message condemning Iran’s grave human rights abuses.

The Trump administration’s reckless and dangerous decision to abandon mandatory asbestos testing in cosmetic products is a failure of public trust and consumer protection.

We must strengthen our cosmetic safety laws, close loopholes, and ensure supply chain transparency.
The FDA has suddenly dropped a proposed rule to require asbestos testing in cosmetics.

The rule would've set up testing to identify cancer-causing asbestos in talc-containing products.

Contamination has repeatedly been found in talc-based cosmetics before.

I've heard too many heartbreaking stories of parents losing a child due to Big Tech’s unsafe platforms. Their voices demand action.

The House Republican version of the Kids Online Safety Act doesn’t do the job.
First Speaker (D) opposes KOSA, but asserts the right to protect kids from the internet.

Ignoring a global epidemic doesn't make it disappear.

The Trump admin choosing not to recognize World AIDS Day isn't just negligence, it's a conscious choice to abandon the countless people still fighting for their lives.

To all those impacted, we see you and won't stop fighting on your behalf.

Despicable. While Trump is busy using the immense power of the US military to murder people in speedboats who he has accused of having drugs, he has simultaneously decided to pardon one of the biggest convicted drug traffickers of the century.

Where does the hypocrisy end?

Republicans are putting auto industry profits over Americans’ lives. Rolling back proven safety rules is reckless and deadly.

For my entire career, I’ve stood with safety advocates and heard their firsthand accounts.

I refuse to let extremists eliminate lifesaving protections.
Exclusive: Republicans plan to challenge vehicle-safety mandates, such as automatic emergency braking and alarms that remind drivers a child is in the back seat.

Refugees fleeing violence deserve safety, not political attacks. They contribute to our economy, our communities, and our culture.

Diversity is our strength, and refugees help make this nation great.

We must reject this cruelty and choose compassion over fear.

This year’s Trouble in Toyland report from Illinois PIRG makes one thing clear: too many dangerous toys are still reaching our kids.

It was powerful hearing a firsthand account from Taylor Bethard, a young mom whose daughter died after ingesting a dangerous water bead.

For years, I’ve fought for safer cars, and this is a real win: female crash-test dummies are finally becoming standard.

This victory belongs to the organizing, the science, and everyone who never gave up.

It’s a long-overdue step toward ensuring our safety standards reflect all Americans.

As a dues-paying @unitehere.org member, I know unions aren’t just important, they’re essential.

Unions lift people out of poverty, raise workplace standards, & give workers the voice they deserve.

It was great to welcome @gwenmillsuh.bsky.social to our @laborcaucus.house.gov meeting. #UnionStrong
