after looking into it more and having one of you and my son also go searching I believe this shading style might actually be the work of kentaro waki?
and here's the thing, that person did not work on gwitch which is where I FIRST noticed this but gwitch had shota kodera who was a pupil of waki!

I find the SF type II really odd as a mobile suit because like for the most part, other than the head, the type II is just a strike freedom with kit level detail variance
like bandai always does little changes to the details of a design for kits and the type II kinda just feels like that to me?
