Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

This is correct and it's why public opinion doesn't actually do anything on its own. It has to be mobilized. You have to DO politics.
My sense of things has always been that most people do not have strong, deeply felt opinions on a lot of policy issues, and so their opinions can change fairly quickly depending on what’s in the news.
Why do people's opinions on a single issue change with the direction of the wind?

Weekly reminder: The average American diet requires about TWO ACRES of land PER PERSON per year

And that’s food grown and raised by people who are experts at growing and raising food

We need to fight for a safer and more sustainable U.S. food supply, not try to grow all our own food
responses to this have included
-grow all your own food
-buy organic
-check labels
-go to the farmers market
-check for recalls
-make your own food from scratch

etc

WRONG. none of you have read the article
"You know, as an example, red lead was used to make cheddar... A can of coffee could be coffee, but it could be ground bone, or charred shells, or dirt." Deborah Blum on our bad food past -- and how to avoid it being our future:

We will be stronger if folks are willing to admit that genocide is wrong, Palestinian lives are precious, and apartheid and attacks on civil rights in the name of “Jewish safety” are a Christian nationalist-driven Trojan horse that will destroy us if we don’t shut it down

Love talking to my mother on the phone and getting up to speed like an emergency room surgeon being debriefed at the start of an overnight shift.

So it’s states rights unless it’s parents rights unless you don’t like the parents then it’s states rights unless the states make the wrong ruling and then it’s national ban. And this is textualism?

For those alarmed by my banner, she’s fine. She just loves to follow the sun when she’s inside.

This app feels that much more complete with Melanie Lynskey here.
This morning I cooked while my daughter sang a beautiful rendition of Pink Pony Club and Jason accompanied her on the cat piano (plays meows in the note you hit). I’m thankful for these two

I hope that the people who are usually not politically engaged but worked really hard to get Harris elected wake up soon and realize that they are not the only ones who are tired of a struggle that is full of defeat & in fact they could learn about surviving from the leftists they mark as enemies

One thing I think people talking about the threat of authoritarian creep have gotten, if not exactly wrong, not quite right either is to frame discussion in terms of various European precedents.

Those are relevant to be sure, but we also have an American precedent - namely the South before 1965.

Using a screenshot from one of my sister’s old tweets to lure her to @bsky.app. Our text convos are layered.

One of the creepiest texts I’ve ever received. Why are they itching to walk a specific breed? And why use this menacing photo of my dog like a reverse random demand?

I love reading psychological thrillers where the entire premise shifts beneath you as the story unfolds. Any recos?

“I can keep my eyes closed for 20 seconds. Count and I’ll show you.”
