This past summer, we saw 11 toxic algal blooms (TABs) across the Snake River. This is the third consecutive year that we have seen TABs on the lower Snake River. TABs grow in warm, stagnant water with added nutrients. The lower Snake River dams create these exact conditions.

Columbia Basin salmon are in deep crisis: Most wild salmon and steelhead runs today persist at a fraction of their historic abundance and geographic distribution, and some (including three of five in the Snake River) persist at less than one percent of their historic abundance.

Last Friday, the Trump Administration officially withdrew from the Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement, attempting to lock us into an illegal and failing status quo for salmon. Meanwhile, federal agencies key to salmon recovery risk being eliminated and habitat restoration funding is in jeopardy.
