What Dan says.
With the Trump Administration about to roll its ugly occupation into Chicago, I wanted to write a little lyrical love letter to the city. dansinker.com/posts/202…

¡Ay, Flaco! What a treasure, what a loss. Gracias por toda la música.
RIP Flaco Jiménez, the first king of Norteño music. In this clip from Les Blank's 1975 film about Norteño music, Chulas Fronteras, he performs one of his earliest hits, Un Mojado Sin Licencia (literally, a wetback without a license), a song uncomfortably relevant in this age of mass deportations.

This is me, not paying attention to the temper tantrums of toddlers in high places--and urging you to do the same. They want attention most of all. Don't give it to 'em.

Fight back! And this phenomenon has been happening in the music biz since the dawn of digital recordings. So please care about real music made by real humans, too.
We're living through the Who Cares Era, where completely disposable things are shoddily produced for people to mostly ignore, while the government stomps its uncaring boot on our necks. But there's an easy way to fight back: Care.

I wrote about it: dansinker.com/posts/2025-0...

More interesting than all that other news: Chickengate hits Petaluma, CA. Oh, how far we've come from the days of radical lefty Russian Jewish chicken farmers. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9780801...

@quinn.social.circl.lu.ap.brid.gy nails it, as usual (plus ordinary humans can understand her piece). If you've wondered what Signal actually does, and why there's all that fuss about Pete Hegseth using it for highly sensitive, official government business, this is for you.
Despite Pete Hegseth, Signal is Good - emptywheel

I urge everyone to stop referring to Trump's "executive orders." Most of these are not legitimate and have no real legal effect. Instead of dignifying/normalizing them, let's call them what they are: dictator's decrees or imperial edicts, take your pick.

Saw "The 9 Lives of Barbara Dane" last night, and I am very glad I did. What a great singer, total badass, and inspiration she was. Streamed via the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival, so you, too, can see it until April 9. Do it!

Want to feel more hopeful? Read Dan's piece.
In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

A song from another dark time, the Troubles in Northern Ireland. If you need some solace and inspiration, give it a listen. #freedom #resistance #folkmusic
Hey SkyPals-Throwing another tune up here, with a slightly “hopeful for the future” vibe which, I’m thinking, might go down well in these dark times. Let me know what you think. Written by the great Tommy Sands, titled “Your Daughters and Your Sons”.

James Taylor says it perfectly.
"I always hesitate to bring my political beliefs into this space. I don’t think my listeners would expect that from me and some of you will find it disappointing: not what you were looking for... "
