In my local area, faith groups have supported each other after last week's attack in Manchester. This is how we stay strong. Fellow @littlerebsprize.bsky.social winner AM Dassu's 'Fight Back' shows this in action. DM me if you know a school/youth group who could use a copy, I'd love to buy them one.

It was such a joy yesterday to see my book 'The Fights That Make Us' win the Little Rebels Award. I hope it can help inspire, encourage and empower all us - old and young rebels alike - to carry on fighting for equality.

🌈 Thank you to @thediversebookawards for longlisting 'The Fights That Make Us'.

It's such a joy to see my story about campaigning for LGBTQ+ rights and equality in the 80s and today touching people's hearts and reaching new audiences.

I am so delighted to be shortlisted for the Little Rebels Award again this year, alongside this stellar line up of stories.

If the world needs anything right now, it needs little (and big) rebels, learning from our history to imagine different, better, flourishing futures.

I've been out and about in schools this Pride month, sharing stories and celebrating diversity! Thank you to Flora Stevenson school (pictured on this lovely mug) for inviting me all the way to Edinburgh. With events in Salford, Manchester & London still to come, it's nice to be home for a breather.

Sometimes you discover a book so wonderful that you want to get everyone you know to read it. The Line They Drew Through Us is one of those books. Hiba Noor Khan has taken the pain of Partition & created a story full of warmth, honesty and love. It couldn't be more relevant. I learnt so much.

I couldn't be happier than to be shortlisted for this award for historical books for children & young people. Telling and celebrating and learning from LGBTQ+ history is such a crucial tool to help us respond to what's happening in the world right now 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The step-up in anti-migrant rhetoric from the government is shameful and dangerous.

Migrants are our neighbours, friends and family.

To suggest that Britain risks becoming “an island of strangers” because of immigration mimics the scaremongering of the far-right.

I didn't know this! Let's celebrate these women!
Once more with feeling: the govt does not do this out of goodwill. PLR was organised, agitated for & activated by Maureen Duffy and Brigid Brophy. Borrow their books, especially Maureen's, and give them their 💐
Happy PLR Day to everyone who celebrates! And readers, remember that not only do libraries give you access to a wide selection of books for free, the Government also pays authors a small sum for every time one of their books is borrowed from a public library... #ThisWritingLife

PLR is the money writers and illustrators get when their work is borrowed from libraries and it's one reason we love libraries so much. Please use your nearest library with abandon! And thank you @britishlibrary.bsky.social for administering it. Every year it makes a huge difference to many of us.

Happy, happy PLR day! And thank you to everyone who borrows books from public libraries. It's so heart-warming to see how many people borrowed my books in the last year, I hope you got at least 11.8p of enjoyment out of each loan!
