The more time I spend with families caring for children that have experience unsupported adversity the clearer it is that we need to do more. More to create a system that can walk with them throughout childhood and beyond. More to reduce isolation and stigma. More financial support. More kindness.

I have found that it requires very little to extend kindness to birth parents and families, even in the face of their anger.

Never underestimate the transformative power of empathy and respect, the shift is instant when met with understanding rather than judgment.

I remember when a visit from a social worker really made a difference for a child I cared for. He built a genuine relationship, and it felt natural to have them visit, because he knew they cared. I can’t say this anymore. Children & adults need to build trust with the people around them

Call yesterday from one of our precious extended family.

She wanted to say Happy Christmas, and say one of her happiest memories was every Christmas Eve going skating in Santa hats.

Skating became a magical little tradition that bonded us all.

She asked if we could teach her children to skate ❤️

Foster carers get £7.50 an hour?? Where did they get those figures? Very very few get anything like that.
