Inspired by Ann Rigney’s work on Remembering Activism, I put the “Internationalism Calendar” on my Christmas wish list. January is called ‘seeds of hope’ and details the story of protests against UK weapon production for Indonesia in the context of the struggle for independence in East Timor.

The project to bring the Oldpark Library back to life is so intriguing, not least from a peacebuilding perspective. Across the Narrow Sea – early reflections by Chair of Trustees Brian J. Cavanagh on our #BackToLife project carnegieoldpark.org/2025/11/03/a...

50 years ago what became the worst feud between the Official and Provisional IRA's began in Belfast. Anthony McIntyre's article, written in 2002, is one of the best accounts of this tragic period.

This! I bought a refurbished 13 mini last year (to replace my ancient SE, which I didn't want to give up precisely because of the size).
Bring back small phones! This is my iphone 13 mini. It is a perfectly-sized phone. But it's going to die - in a few years, Apple will stop supporting it w/updates. Yet there are now NO new smartphones to buy on the market that fit the human hand. www.ft.com/content/6332...

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

A Danish parliamentarian, the MP Victoria Velasquez, has been abducted by the Israeli military this morning.

Today I finally read "A Minor Detail" by Adania Shibli. An almost forensic narrative of how to access and uncover the past in a present context of near total restriction and destruction. One of many books that might help us make out what we are witnessing in Gaza. theconversation.com/minor-detail...
Minor Detail book: how the language of the past can help us read the present situation in Palestine
Adania Shibli’s Minor Detail is a sparse but searing novel that shows how the horrors of the past continue to shape Palestinian life today
