Unpopular opinion: Running in temps below zero beats running in temperatures above 75 every time. Also, why is it the silence of a winter night hits so much harder than the sounds of a summer night?

Taking time off after a big race (especially when you PR’Ed) may be worse than tapering. The urge to get back out there is physically and mentally challenging.

Running never ceases to amaze me. Some days you feel like you are regressing, and then you run the marathon you trained for and PR by over 13 minutes with a 2:50. The lesson: improvements in running can only be calculated over months and years, not days and hours. Stay the course and be rewarded.

That one week humidity break really got me believing I could fly. Oh well, back to gasping for breath. I’d like to think this will condition me for the fall season, but in reality I think I am just wearing myself out and will get to the race without enough in the tank.

Hot, 100% humidity, and raining. These are the June runs that set up Fall success. Today was not about pace, but instead was all about grit. Also, a good way to figure out where your running clothes chafe.

I can take heat during the day, but if that thermometer doesn’t drop overnight and I start my morning run at midday heat, it’s just demoralizing from the start. Like I’m sweaty before sweating. Gross. Maybe I was born to be a reverse snowbird.

There is something therapeutic about running in front of an incoming thunderstorm, where the lightning is far enough away you can’t hear thunder, but close enough to light the path and entertain you for an early morning run in the dark. Magical stuff.

I’m now coaching youth track. The kids are a blast and it’s awesome to give back to the sport in a new way. I swear some of these kids have enough energy pent up to run multiple marathons! They also speak a completely different language and understand zero of my ultra-hip references.

Today the rain stopped just long enough to get in my scheduled run. Just a happy little window of joy. It’s the little things, like believing I know more and outsmarted my local meteorologist.

Running in high winds is such a trip. Go one direction - you feel you could run forever. Go back the other way - your feet are in cement and you swear you haven’t made forward progress for the past fifteen minutes.

I love how the turkey trot has become a holiday tradition for many. Why don’t we do this for other holidays, especially those where it is not freezing outside? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Why is it that every time I go for a run and the temperatures are hovering around freezing, I question how warm I need to dress? It’s not like I didn’t just run in these same temperatures for the pat month. Do I think some bear is gonna pop out on the trail and chase me with a bullet heater?

Running at night is something special. The silence, the beauty in stillness, the ability to hear your overly labored breathing causing you to question every aspect of your fitness. Amazing.

Does anyone else get really self-conscious on their runs? Like if you step on a crack or graze the inside of your calf with one leg, you have to immediately balance it out by doing the same with the other leg the next stride or something bad will happen? Like it angers the running gods or something.

Lets give this a go and see what happens.
