Strange to see Texas A&M advertising a tt job in literary studies with an emphasis on literary rep of gender and sexuality just after they fired a faculty member for discussing “gender ideology.” (Obviously this wasn’t a departmental decision, but I can’t imagine who would want this job).

what's so chilling, to me, in all the evangelical parenting manuals i read and the testimony i received from survivors, is the idea in evangelical circles that striking your child in a cool and ritualistic manner is somehow better than doing so in anger. it isn't. it really isn't

Let's not revive the "Ukr is super corrupt" narrative! Ukr's corruption is moderate (lower than Hungary, btw) and has declined since 2014. Backlash against anticorruption institutions isn't unusual; it happened in Italy in 1990s, in Romania in 2010s. Anticorruption inevitably gets politicized.

One emotion I feel a lot in the era of conflict-driven social media engagement is the secondhand embarrassment and vague disgust at the desperation of other people’s attempts to be shocking.
Tagging Jamelle Bouie in these trolling posts from the literal Vice President of the United States is such scummy, racist behavior. These really are the worst people in the world. This guy isn't even trying to be a statesman; he's a gutter troll.

so many women who grew up in the church were told by Christian men that they’re the ones who can and will keep us safe.
A woman who toured with the Newsboys in 2014 claims Michael Tait drugged her & then watched as a band lighting tech raped her in a hotel room. The alleged victim & witnesses claim the tour manager covered up the crime, saying, "It's being handled. Don't meddle in this."

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles
Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.
