I just had to write an email that was simultaneously, complex, but low stakes. It took me about 15 minutes.

I'm just left thinking how A.I. could possibly have made my life easier in this regard... it can't? It would have taken me just as long writing a prompt to explain the situation.

Every Friday I meet with my research students, and every Friday I am left wowed by the amazing questions and ideas the have. Today produced four pages of notes of thoughts and ideas, and its just a treat, it really is.

It has taken over three years, but I have finally submitted and IRB that did not require revisions!

I don't understand the need to use AI for emails when you can just hastily send one with zero proofreading.

On Prolific, "we estimate that about 34% of online study participants use LLMs to answer open-ended questions atleast some of the time..."

Seems like a very timely paper for behavioural scientists using online samples: osf.io/preprints/so... ;

We really need more papers on this issue

This is the one time a semester where I can prep Aural Skills and have music in the background! It's when I'm setting up my syllabus...

Beaming with pride after having two students give public presentations today, and beyond their excellent presentations, they were just completely dominant in the Q&A.

Obviously, it's odd these days... However, I feel like I should mention: During the entire first year of my PhD, I would watch, and fall asleep, to The Osbournes.

I also vividly remember my parents telling me to not watch it when I was 10.

I often write and edit at this hotel. Seemingly, many moons ago, I "forever borrowed" a pen of theirs. I had to pull it out today, while working at their bar. The bartender shot me a look... I'm not sure I can ever go back.

Null results are fine too, I guess.

Would it really be an issue if I exclusively used the music of Incubus to teach all my classes...?

Submitting an IRB is like the first drink from a cold glass of water.

Kinda surreal moment today where this student who I taught as an undergrad (while I was a grad student), I got to lead in discussion while they were a grad student (and I a professor).

Making edits to a paper feels more stressful than writing it. When I'm writing, I can say anything; when I edit, it has to be good....

Realizing that I teach at a whiteboard school and not a chalk school. Good for me, chalk is gross.

There is always this unique feeling in my stomach right before I run a new experiment. A bit of excitement to run something, a bit of fear of things that might go wrong.

Found out today that a student's parents went to high school the same years I did... And I am struggling with this information.

Finally got feedback on a manuscript that I submitted that, while clear adjustments needed to be made to the draft, was also helpful and encouraging. And, I guess I'll take that as my morning win.

A student today introduced me to, unironically, one of the best songs I've ever heard, "Lord Farquaad" by Shrek is Love. Rent was due for these cats. Phenomenal! www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvpa...

Any time anything by Alanis Morissette comes on the radio, I'm overcome with the desire to teach a class that entirely focuses on Jagged Little Pill.

I was recently asked to supervise a winter semester project on 17-tone equal temperament. I'm using this as my excuse to deep dive everything about learning artificial music systems, and I am beyond excited for my holidays now.

I have many SMT takeaways, paramount of which: was why it 30 degrees warmer in the Fall, then it was at SMPC in the summer?
