Make it actually hit a specific calculated area, which could be used (especially if the asteroid were actually larger than it is in this case) as a crazy first strike weapon in an international conflict of literally epic proportions. You don't need to end earth to functionally take out a continent.

So with this potential asteroid impact in 2032, a malicious entity with a sufficiently advanced space program could theoretically alter these miniscule probabilities and while claiming it was sending a spacecraft to study and/or collect data, could instead in fact alter its trajectory to... (1/2)
