Robert Topper, professor. Views are my own, not my employer’s (obvi) Computational & theoretical chemistry and physics. Really into aerosolized acid-base nanoparticles these days. DFT, ab initio, stat mech, Monte Carlo, MD, lots of salt (in a nice way)

Hi! Glad to be here. I'll be posting about all things salt, as well as all about the Virtual Winter School on Computational Chemistry! You can register now at winterschool.cc. The VWSCC is completely free, and is held online 217-31 January 2025.
I need an explanation please

...and the salt research continues!
Culinarily savvy folks in the habit of generously salting their pasta water before bringing it to a boil may notice that the grains fall to the floor of the pan in a ring shape. Someone’s come up with a scientific explanation for that: cen.acs.org/food/food-sc... #ChemistsWhoCook

@bernadsz.bsky.social Fantastic session at VWSCC! Does the new microsolvation tool necessarily leave the central molecule(s) rigid? (which is okay but I would like to know). Also can a mix of H2O and H3O+ be used?

This news was posted just before finals and so for some strange reason it’s taken this long to share this great project we published on ammonium nitrate nanoparticles. #chemsky cooper.edu/engineering/...
