Jalopy continues its streak at motoring film festivals! 🌟 I am ecstatic that the Grand Motoring Film Festival 2025 @grandmotoring has nominated Jalopy for Best Student Film! Grand Motoring Film Festival is the kickoff event of the tradition-rich Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, where classic and cutting-edge vehicles are celebrated. We're grateful to @grandmotoring for appreciating @jalopyshortfilm 's @jeep Liberty SUV 🚙 alongside iconic, exotic, and muscle speedsters! 🏎️ No longer in production by Chrysler (now Stellantis) since 2012, the Jeep Liberty here is of the first generation 2002-era model that features a handsome rugged design, and may already be of vintage status to car afficionados. 🍇 As a pivotal plot twist hinges on this Jeep in @jalopyshortfilm , it really functions as a supporting character that steals every scene. 🎬 AFAIK, @jalopyshortfilm is also one of only a few films in cinema history that showcases the Jeep Liberty, with scenes that amply show off its exterior and interior too. 🎥 Date: Friday, October 31, 2025 Time: 5:00pm - 9:30pm Loc: Arts Center of Coastal Carolina 14 Shelter Cove Lane, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. I am remarkably proud that Jalopy will be screening at the longstanding SF community classic Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema @bernal_outdoor_cine ! 🤩 As a local SF filmmaker, showing my film at BHOC is the greatest honor! Not to mention, Jalopy is an ode for my love of San Francisco and NorCal. The story is set in SF and the film features lots of instantly recognizable SF neighborhoods. This includes our now historic shot of the original Philz Coffee in the Mission. 📷 (https://www.instagram.com/p/C4Kyk6hO6SK) Our entire 2nd unit who shot those scenes on location, are all SF denizens too! In particular, 2nd Unit Director of Photography @julianzjordan and Unit Producer @monica.menor are both alum and award winners at past BHOC seasons! 🏆 (Although the film doesn't feature Bernal Heights, but we make up for this shortcoming by being selected by @bernal_outdoor_cine and forever be associated with Bernal Heights now! 😂👍🏻) Despite BHOC's "outdoor" theme, Jalopy is showing in the indoor Flim Crawl section at these times/loc: (NEXT WEEK!) April 1st, 2025 Sal Ardongdé Announces "Jalopy" Sequel Mid-Length Film: "Jalopy 2" San Francisco, CA -- Oscar-qualified award-winning filmmaker Sal Ardongdé announced today that, thanks to the successful acquisition of a nearly identical patriot-blue Jeep Liberty (pictured), pre-production on a sequel to his Oscar-qualified award-winning short film "Jalopy" has commenced. Said sequel -- titled "Jalopy 2" -- is a response to the overwhelming praise from "Jalopy"'s successful festival run. "Even if no one will like this sequel, I need to do it as my gift to our fans," said Ardongdé. "Jalopy 2" will be set in the beautiful Banff National Park @banff.national.park in Alberta, Canada. "This ensures the film has enough Canadian content to satisfy Bill C-11," explained Ardongdé, "so that we get into Toronto International Film Festival @tiffnet.bsky.social this time!" Lead actors Lauren Birdsall and Benedikt Sebastian are set to reprise their roles. Though, returning co-producer Ben Foley teased, "This doesn't necessarily mean their characters are still together, you'll have to watch the new film to find out." Negotiations are in process with The Biker actor Christopher Lukens, who has since become a highly sought after A-list writer-actor-director triple threat. Actress Kaleina Cordova will also return to play "the prettiest park ranger in the world". In the sequel, her fan-favo(u)rite Ranger character was furloughed due to recent national park funding cuts and relocated to work in Banff. To save money, the sequel will use AI to generate similar music from the original score by composer Gabriella Hirsch . When asked about directing actors, Todd Haynes shared that "each actor has his/her own way to prepare"; directors should respect and work with that. From everything discussed, I prob appreciate this quote the most.
