I’m probably going to saw this a few times this year, but @UzoAduba better get @TheEmmys and @goldenglobes nominations for her performance in @netflix’s The Residence. Stellar. STEL. LAR. Masterclass.

Every couple of years, I feel it’s my responsibility to remind my people of these two phenomenal soul singers. Don’t sleep on Clark Beckham and Yebba Smith. You’re welcome.

The lighting in the #TheTraitorsUS confessional this season is horrendous. What are they doing?

The Couple Next Door (Channel 4)
B+
If you like Sam Heughan in Outlander, you’ll love him here. Alfred Enoch seems to play a sad simp in everything. This 6-ep series is like Desperate Housewives w/o the comedy. There’s definitely trouble on Wisteria Lane & it’s easily a married couple’s nightmare.

Insomnia (Paramount+ UK)
C+
I’ve been a big fan of Vicky McClure since Trigger Point. (If you haven’t seen that series, you should.) While I got thru it, a lot felt arbitrary. There were some intriguing themes, but the show didn’t commit to an identity. Even 6 eps felt long. 4 would have been good.

Nightbitch (Hulu)
Grade: B+
Amy Adams is very unsettling as an artist-turned-mother. We’re shown the mundane monotony of stay-at-home parenthood and forced to consider the things sacrificed knowingly and those that creep up. Scoot McNairy plays “Husband” as a useless appendage of a marital partner.

Missing You
B+
Solid limited series that's efficient & tidy at 5 episodes. I love it when they don’t stretch it out to 6 or 10 just because of an arbitrary standard or greed. The story is very Harlan Coben. If you’ve seen his stuff, you know what that means. All in all, a fun, low-investment watch.

Dune: Part Two
F
Hot take: I don’t get it. I found this movie extremely boring. In fact, I think I hate it. Dune has never been interesting to me, so it triggers no nostalgia. The budget was $190M but it doesn’t look like it. The world feels small and contained. I stopped watching about 30 mins in.

“Conclave” (Peacock)
B+
This movie is loaded with talent. The excitement is in its simplicity, even as the conclave is making a decision that will affect the world for decades. I read that they made the movie on a $20M budget. That seems low because the film looks striking.

“Nosferatu”
B
Lily-Rose Depp surprised me with her ability to consistently channel that degree of emotion. Hoult, Dafoe, & Corrin (far from her character in “A Murder at the End of the World”) all turn in strong performances grounded in humanity. Skarsgard was as committed to his role as he ever is.

“The Substance”
B+
This movie was bizarre. It might be condescending to say Demi Moore & Margaret Qualley were very brave to take on these roles, but they really were. I love that there are still creators out there making daring and original content. The last 25 minutes are legit CRACKED!!!

“A Complete Unknown”: B+. Timothee Chalamet was A++. Definitely worth seeing, but the movie was about 20 mins too long for the limited period in Bobby’s life covered.

“Juror #2”: C+. Didn’t regret watching it, but it was generally meh.

“Maria”: D. Well made, but so boring. Angelina Jolie was a B+.
