According to a major study, Denmark has the worst family reunion policy among 54 other countries. What kind of example is this?

The UK government should be learning how to treat people seeking safety with compassion, not how to make their lives even harder.

UPDATE: Lord Dubs' amendment for child refugees to the Border Security Bill was lost to a vote. But across parties, Peers spoke up for the simple right of families to be together. It's a reminder that in Parliament and beyond, people are still standing up for compassion.

In 2017, now-Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood called on the Conservative Government to protect unaccompanied child refugees. But today, she’s the one pushing ahead with the suspension of refugee family reunion.

Children don’t stop moving just because safe routes are closed. But they do take riskier journeys.

When the Government suspends vital safe routes, it leaves them with no choice but to turn to smugglers to reach their families in UK.

Many of these children arrived alone in the UK after fleeing war and persecution, often facing exploitation on their journeys, and are now feared taken by traffickers.

Child refugees deserve safety and care — not to be put at risk of going missing 💔 www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

This right should never have been denied.

It's a relief that some Palestinian students will be able to bring their children with them to safety, but allowing this on a "case-by-case" basis is not enough.

Families belong together & it’s time the government made that a reality.
Dependants of Gaza students can come to UK, government says
The decision is a reversal of the original policy which only supported the evacuation of the students themselves.

🚨 Over 2,000 people have reportedly been executed in Sudan’s El Fasher, in what has been described as ethnically motivated mass killings.

As violence spirals, we see families and children left trapped in warzones and forced to flee with nowhere safe to go. (1/3)

*3 facts the far-right doesn't want you to know*

📌0.7% - This is the percentage of the UK population that are refugees. We’re not being “overrun”. Refugees make up less than 1 in 100 people in the UK. (1/3)

A few days ago in Nottingham, residents hung hand-painted signs reading “we are kind” and “we are welcoming”.

When a loud minority is trying to divide us, ordinary people up and down the UK are showing what our country really stands for. Compassion, kindness, and community 🧡

Since 2014, at least 32,774 people have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean (IOM Missing Migrants Project). Behind this number are real people — parents, children, siblings, friends — each with hopes and dreams, each with loved ones missing them.

Shoutout to Taylor, Fancy, Nilesh, Alabama & Kaina, who took on the Royal Parks Half and absolutely smashed it this weekend!

Together, they’ve already raised over £4,000, running not just for the finish line, but for a future where child refugees can find safety and be reunited with their families

We could all do with a little hope today 💛

These are just a few of the hundreds of messages we’ve received for refugees arriving in the UK

For someone who has fled war and persecution, a message of welcome can mean everything.

Two years on, Gaza is still burning – and families are still torn apart.

Tens of thousands of lives lost in Gaza and 1,200 in Israel.

Millions displaced.

Families shattered by relentless bombardment, siege, and forced displacement, in what has become an ongoing genocide. 1/4

This should never be normal. Children risk these journeys because there are no safe alternatives to reach safety and their loved ones.

That's the direct result of restrictive policies that leave children with no other choice.

This #BlackHistoryMonth and every month, we stand with Black refugees and communities whose experiences show us that the fight for safety is also a fight against racism.

Hostile borders, anti-refugee rhetoric and policies, and racist discrimination don’t exist in isolation.

Refugee family reunion was never a "golden ticket". It was already highly restrictive, blocking children reuniting with siblings, or the only relatives they had left. Families were already waiting months or years. And now, the government wants to tear even more families apart.

Farzad was just 14 when he had to leave Afghanistan, alone. Like many boys his age, he risked being recruited by the Taliban, and his dad’s activism made him an even bigger target. He made it safely to France, but the separation took a devastating toll on the family.
