Had my second visit to Boogy & Peel in D.C.'s Dupont Circle. Instead of their round pies this time, we went for the Detroit. A little heavy on the sauce. Not bad.

It was nice to visit Stocky, but he was fairly knocked out after a short while.

Martha Dear in D.C. is such a treat. Crisp, gently charred, and firm sourdough crust with uniquely Greek toppings. I could eat their white pie on the regular: mozzarella, kefalotyri, myzithra, garlic, basil, and lemon. Some of the best pizza in the District.

D.C.'s Pizzeria Paradiso will celebrate their 35th anniversary later this year. I've been literally hundreds of times, and it's still solid and straightforward pizza. A bit thicker than a traditional Neapolitan style with a welcome firmness that holds like slices. Hasn't changed much in decades.

Alfreda in D.C.'s Dupont Circle is probably the most underrated pizzeria in the District. Excellent sourdough crust with a firm crisp. Since my last visit, they added more pizzas to their sparse menu, including this gem with potato, aged mozzarella, Taleggio, rosemary, garlic oil, and black pepper.

Good day for a cat walk through Petworth.

Tuxie is keeping an eye out.

Pop Fizz Bar in Washington, D.C.: known more for their beverage program full of sparkling and bubbly varieties, they have a decent Detroit style pizza menu as well. Hits all the basics with no faults, including crispy caramelised edges and generous stretchy cheese. Very delightful staff here too.

Hello neighbor cat. Sorry, but I cannot give you a treat. It would be habit-forming. And I'm not here permanently.

The neighbor cats have found out I'm back in D.C. for a bit.

In Manhattan's Nolita, there are queues for all the newest and hottest things. Including some pizza I wanted to try. Sadly, I don't have time to wait, so I popped into Pasquale Jones, which was completely empty.

The original Patsy's in East Harlem has been on my to-do list for decades, and I was finally was able to tick that box. One of the oldest pizzerias in New York, woven deep in pizza history. The place is a relic. My pizza was a no-frills ordinary plain pie with a chewy crust. Slices of the past.

I've sought out some bodega cats in Brooklyn. One was hard to spot. 😹

Salty Cat bringing in 2026.

The legendary Luigi's Pizza in South Slope, Brooklyn served me some nice-looking slices that were rather dry and hard, and the grandma slice went a bit beyond "charred". I might pop back in when it isn't New Year's Eve.

Rocco Pizza in Bedford-Stuyvesant: a old school neighborhood staple. Got the chewy grandma style with pep and hot honey, and a tricolor slice with vodka sauce and basil. Crowd tonight was split between people grabbing slices and delivery drivers with full face helmets showing their phone screens.

La Flor Pizzeria in Brooklyn: firm slices with no flop. The white slice with honey was a nice lunchtime treat.

Salty Cat is so polite when he crosses his paws.

F&F Pizzeria in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens: got a thick, chewy Sicilian with Bianco DiNapoli tomatoes, mozzarella, pecorino romano, and their house olive oil. The star for me was their Cacio e Pepe slice with mozz, Parmigiano-Reggiano, pecorino romano, and a ton of black pepper. Rich; almost creamy!

Lucky Charlie in Bushwick opened in June, pairing one of the oldest coal ovens (1890) with one of the craziest and decorated pizzaiolos (Nino Coniglio). Crust is crisp, crunchy, and charred, topped with fior di latte, San Marzano, and copious shavings of 40-month Parmigiano Reggiano. Truly superior.

New York City's Ribalta: upscale Italian in Greenwich Village. I got red and yellow Piennolo tomatoes from near Mt. Vesuvius, imported fior di latte, basil sauce, and Provolone from Monti Lattari. Made to award-winning certification, albeit a tad large. Friends took half their pies home with them.

Andrew Bellucci's Pizzeria in Queens carries the checkered legacy of a cornerstone of New York pizza history. He's someone who inspired a number of the great pizzerias of today, and sentenced to jail for fraud. Slices are the work of an conniving obsessive that taste quintessentially "New York."

Traze in Long Island City: 72-hour fermented dough in a grandma style. A delicate but firm crunch. It's a small shop, and the attention to detail is well beyond most slices. Might be the best of the style I've had.

Christmas in Manhattan is delightful. Most of the crowds are gone, you can jaywalk across the avenues, and you can get slices at East Village Pizza as great as any other day of the week.

Lucia Pizza Of Avenue X: I swear it wasn't my intention, but when I got my spinach slice and Sicilian, I couldn't help to think they seemed festive. Excellent slices.
