River water in Rychilla needs to be filtered, to remove the toxicant in it, before it's safe to drink. This toxicant comes from merfolk who live in the river - but the Rychillans haven't realised they're there yet.

Embers of Doubt takes place at the local college of mages, where three apprentices are competing for one position as a mage.
As part of their tests, each apprentice has to teach a class of school students how to use magic to filter water.

Jaleshi elves wear black lipstick and nail polish as a sign of mourning. We'll meet a character like this in book 3 of my series.

Dark red/maroon is the royal colour in Rychilla. Reserved by law for those on government business. It's the colour of town guard uniforms and cars. As such, Karis usually wears it.

Back in primary school. I think my first original piece was about a rally team using an electric car, inspired by the 'XV Racers' toy line that was out at the time. I think I was in year 4 or 5 of primary school at that point.

Rychillan technology runs on elemental magic, controlled by runes. Most vehicles (cars, boats, airships) are steam powered, with the steam generated from water & fire magic.
Smaller devices use clockwork (i.e. wound springs & gears) for power.

Originally, Rychillan trade routes followed the rivers that cover the kingdom and run into neighbouring nations. More recently, airships have taken over from riverboats, allowing trade over further distances and more direct routes.

Funnily enough, Yaetherim ends up as a sort of coach for Naeliya. In book 3.1 (an interquel) and book 4, Naeliya realises that she's in a position to perform her own investigations. As the kingdom's only private eye, Yaetherim coaches her in these.

Yes. I find it's a good way to break up the dialogue and keep things moving.
Half of my characters are fairies, so I include their wings in the body language. Flicking to indicate surprise, that sort of thing.

"You will be loved."
Yaetherim, at this point, sees himself as broken and unlovable. With scars on his body and soul. It's the reason why he hasn't realised another fairy is in love with him yet.

Yaetherim - cooking. He's good enough to have a career as a chef, if he wanted.
Tenora - tinkering with clockwork. It's what led her into her career as a mechanic.
Karis - sketching. It's one of the few times she lets her hair down.

Rychilla has two seasons: humid and rainy. At the moment, all my stories take place during the former. There are celebrations at the start of the latter, and I have plans for one such celebration, the Jacaranda Ball.

I'm Daniel, an Australian author writing whodunnits in a fantasy setting.
My current WIP, Naeliya Investigates, sees Naeliya look into a theft solo. She finds she enjoys it more than her job as a messenger.

I use a program called Joplin. It's FOSS, which syncs across my PC and Android phone.
Notes can be organised into 'notebooks', and can be tagged. Images & other media can also be added.

For my urban fantasy series, strangely, it's 'Yesterday's Hero' by John Paul Young (and the Bay City Rollers cover) on repeat. #amwriting #WritingCommunity

Luxanke the Provider works by putting people in the right place at the right time. She does this by appearing to them in their dreams, and giving them guidance. Less directly, she'll also act through her priests and acolytes.
