Columbine (Aquilegia) growing rampant. Last year I shook out the seed heads to let it cover this area of the bed. It's growing like a weed now! Last year it went dormant mid summer cause of the heat. Latin named for eagle from talon-like petals. #gardening #native #Baltimore

It's always a gamble when you're in a borderline hardiness zone, but even so, you could argue we were a bit ambitious with this guy. It did survive 2 years but the latest cold snap and ice did it in. Lace leaf mahonia (Mahonia Eubracteata) RIP. #nativeplants #gardening #zone7
