No one believes me when I tell stories of my past dog Xanadu escaping our house on a regular basis. She could open any dog crate, any door. Didn't matter if it opened inward and had a deadbolt. She'd have it open in seconds.
After a West Virginia shelter dog named Dawson escaped from his gated enclosure and then used his teeth to open the front door on Jan. 4, a search began.

The AI labs could engender a lot of good will by funneling a tiny fraction of their $200/m subscription fees to GH sponsorships whenever their models use an open-source project.

Valid but I doubt that is how leadership is thinking about it. My guess is they use this as a proxy for adoption (and thus adaptation).

IDEs like Windsurf and Cursor report these metrics, ostensibly to show how useful they are. But BigTech has started aggregating such metrics across ICs, teams, and mgrs. I can only guess how they are being used.

DYK: BigTech has started reporting metrics such as Accepted Completions and has AI-assisted coding modules during interviews. Which is to say, BigTech is already actively filtering out those that can't adapt.

"Shipping velocity" doesn't capture the paroxysms of productivity that happen when the path forward suddenly becomes clear. And the vast lulls in btwn.

Once I got called into the principal's office, to answer whether I had written the mysterious virus on her desktop. I was 7 years old!
