Richard William Painter is an American lawyer, professor, and political candidate. From 2005 to 2007 Painter was the chief White House ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration. He is the S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law at the University of Minnesota, and since 2016 has been vice-chair of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a government watchdog group. .. more

CBS 60 minutes paid for me to travel to New York and spend a night there last August for an interview on presidential financial conflicts of interest and the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. They never ran the intrerview.

Many of us in Minnesota disagree with Ilhan Omar on politics, but we will stand up to anyone who seeks to justify or excuse violence against her, falsely accuses her of promoting violence when she has not done so, or spreads false rumors of insurrection and civil war in Minnesota.

As I told MINNPOST here, with all the threats toward lawmakers, heated rhetoric, and crazy people saying there could be civil war in Minnesota, our lawmakers must hire extra security. They have no choice.

They were hoping their civil war simulation would play out. It didn't. Minnesotans are committed to the rule of law. We peacefully protested, sued in court, appealed to Congress and to voters. We will prevail.
