Woof - it's taken me 3 attempts to get chapter 1 scene 1 of my new draft done. There's so much to get right in the opening of a novel, and it's had me in a tailspin this week 😵💫

Gothic writer: the young girl had braided up her flowing dresses of glossy blackness, and on her cheeks dwelt colour that might test a painter's skill, so rich and delicate its hue, like the rosette tinge of some rare exotic shell.

I've written the first scene today. Drafting is taking me a lot longer than last time, as I'm trying to be much more technical and not fall back into my bad habits! It's challenging!
